New GUTS bus fleet

Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community,

I am pleased to announce the initial deployment of the new Georgetown University Transportation System (GUTS) fleet, which will include 16 new buses in service this year. This investment in our transportation system will improve the services the Office of Transportation Management provides to GUTS users, which account for more than 2 million passenger trips annually. The new GUTS fleet will improve passenger and driver safety, sustainability, passenger comfort and convenience and bus route identification. Specific improvements include:

  • Front, back and on-board cameras for driving safety
  • Improved route signage and Georgetown University identification
  • Integrated bike racks
  • Better fuel efficiency

In the spring of 2014, the Art Department collaborated with the offices of Communications, Auxiliary Business Services, and Planning and Facilities Management to design the art for the new GUTS fleet. Collier Hyams, assistant professor of art and art history, challenged his class (Intro to Graphic Design: Art 162-01 and 162-02) to design the bus art. Students produced more than 100 designs, and Meredith Cheney (College '16) coordinated a voting process in which Georgetown students selected from a short list of 10 bus art designs. Click here to see a photo of one of the new GUTS buses with the winning design, created by Olivia Duff (College '16).

Six new buses will begin service on Tuesday, January 20th . An additional 10 buses will be phased into service between now and April 2015.

Please contact the Office of Transportation Management at with any questions about the new fleet.

Due to emergency road repairs, it is necessary to relocate the Dupont and Wisconsin Avenue GUTS bus stops. Beginning Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at approximately 7:30 pm, the Dupont and Wisconsin Avenue stops will be relocated to the south end of Lot A, directly across the street from the current Dupont bus stop. The stops will remain at this location until the emergency repairs are completed.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Georgetown Community,

In order to support the completion of the Healey Family Student Center, it is necessary to close Prospect Street to facilitate asphalt milling and repaving. Accordingly, Prospect Street is scheduled to close at 7:00pm on Monday, August 18, and reopen at 7:00am on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, weather permitting. Access to Library Walk and Lot 9 will not be affected.

GUTS impacts during the closure period (7:00pm August 18 to 7:00am August 19, 2014) will be:

  • The Rossyln, Arlington and Law GUTS on-campus bus stops will be located between the tennis courts and Wolfington Hall (normal location for the Rosslyn stop).
  • The Rosslyn and Arlington GUTS routes will exit campus via Reservoir Road, head west to Foxhall Road to Canal Road, then on to the normal route.
  • The Law Center GUTS bus will exit campus via Reservoir Road heading east to 35th Street and travel to the next stop at 35th and Prospect Streets, then on to the normal route.
  • Notifications will be posted in affected GUTS buses.

We apologize for any inconvenience this closure may cause. Any questions may be directed to Healey Family Student Center Project Manager Lenn Robinson, at 202.687.7566.
